Siano's SMS1000 MDTV receiver selected for next generation Intel XScale® applications processor mobile digital TV reference platform

NETANYA, Israel, June 13, 2006 - Siano Mobile Silicon, a fabless semiconductor maker of solutions for Mobile Digital TV (MDTV), announced today that Intel has selected the SMS1000 multi-band, multi-standard receiver chipset to provide MDTV for the Monahans 3G Multimedia reference platform.

The Intel 3G multimedia reference platform is a multi-standard, multi-band mobile digital TV and multimedia reference platform based upon the third generation Intel® XScale® processor and the Siano SMS1000 MDTV receiver. The platform targets world-wide Original-Design Manufacturers (ODMs), Original-Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), mobile network operators (MNO), MDTV broadcasters and MDTV applications and content providers wishing to bring-to-market compelling MDTV mobile devices or content. The reference platform provides the MNO with a single device to offer seamless switching of content between unicast and multicast over 3G networks and broadcast content over DVB-H/T, T-DMB and DAB.

"We view MDTV as one of the next killer applications for mobile devices," said Barry Evans, general manager of Intel's Applications Processor Business Unit. "With the Siano SMS1000 solution, a universal MDTV receiver, combined with the Monahans processor, end-users can now have home theater-like DTV experiences on the go," added Evans.

The SMS1000 is the industry's first low-cost, ultra-low-power, quad-band multi-standard receiver. The SMS1000 supports DVB-H, DVB-T, DAB, Enhanced Packet Mode DAB (IP-DAB) and T-DMB mobile digital standards, in various spectrum ranges. It is already designed-in by a number of hand-held device makers, and supported by multiple software vendors.

"Contemporary hand-held devices have become extremely rich in multimedia features, and accordingly, very demanding in their processing requirements," said Alon Ironi, CEO, Siano. "Intel® Xscale processors are the ideal CPU for such multimedia hungry machines. With the Intel 3G multimedia reference platform, manufacturers can bring-to-market high quality devices at a very short design cycle. They can focus on customizing their devices with differentiated look-and-feel, while getting the basic technologies ready to go from Intel and its ecosystem strategic suppliers, such as Siano," said Ironi.

The SMS1000 is now in mass production and has been designed into a number of hand-held devices that will be launched to market in 2H 2006 and 1H 2007.
