NDS and Siano Team Up to Provide a Complete Solution for Mobile Digital Television

NDS' secure content protection and digital rights management and Siano's mobile TV receiver constitute a simple, comprehensive solution for mobile phone makers.

London, UK, and Netanya, Israel, Novemebr 7, 2005 - NDS, the leading provider of secure content delivery technology for digital pay-TV, and Siano Mobile Silicon - a fabless manufacturer of integrated semiconductor receivers for mobile digital television (MDTV) have agreed to collaborate in developing and marketing a comprehensive solution for mobile digital TV devices.

The solution is based on NDS's mVideoGuard™ MDTV Conditional Access and digital rights management technology, integrated with mobile digital TV middleware, and on Siano's advanced multi-standard silicon receiver.
It addresses manufacturers and design houses that strive to integrate mobile digital TV function into mobile phones, smartphones/PDAs, portable media centers, and other mobile and portable devices.

NDS mVideoGuard, and end-to-end solution, will secure the content at the broadcast head-end, and enforce security on the client device. The combination of NDS' content protection technology client, its associated middleware, and Siano's highly integrated multi-standard receiver, SMS1000 will allow high quality, secure TV consumption on end-user devices.
The two companies will demonstrate their joint solution in the up-coming 3G World Congress exhibition in Hong-Kong, November 16-18.

"The success of mobile digital TV depends on the ability of mobile operators and handset makers to provide an attractive and secure service at affordable prices, while being able to generate profits from the new exciting service," said Carmi Bogot, VP business development at NDS. "With Siano's highly integrated, lowest power consumption receiver, and NDS mVideoGuard client and middleware, mobile digital TV services can be provided at state-of-the-art quality, security and flexible business models, while preserving long battery life."

Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano added, "the system demonstrated in the Hong Kong trade show indicates the approach that NDS and Siano take, namely to simplify integration of digital TV for the mobile device designer and manufacturer. The combination of NDS mobile TV software package and Siano's complete receiver constitutes everything needed to make a TV phone, or TV PDA, etc."
