EZchip Technologies Delivers Samples of the NP-2 Network Processor to Customers
San Jose, Calif., July 18, 2005 -- EZchip Technologies Ltd. (a
subsidiary of LanOptics Ltd., NASDAQ:LNOP), a fabless semiconductor
company providing high-speed network processors, today announced that it
has begun shipping samples of its NP-2 network processor to customers.
Concurrently, NP-2 testing continues in order to verify functionality of
all features and various deployment scenarios with volume revenues
expected in 2006. The NP-2 is EZchip's third generation family of
network processors featuring the highest integration for 10-Gigabit and
2.5-Gigabit Metro Ethernet applications. All NP-2 models are pin and
software compatible and can be interchangeably assembled on the same
board to build different product classes.
NP-2 is provided in three models: NP-2/10, NP-2/10L for 10-Gigabit
duplex processing with and without traffic management, and NP-2/5 for
5-Gigabit duplex processing. NP-2 integrates all the major line-card
functions on a single chip including 10-Gigabit (or 5-Gigabit)
full-duplex processing, classification search engines, traffic managers
as well as ten 1-Gigabit and one 10-Gigabit Ethernet MACs/ports.
The 5-Gigabit model (NP-2/5) is a scaled down version of the 10-Gigabit
network processor (NP-2/10) and extends EZchip's reach into lower speed
segments of the Metro Ethernet market. By using NP-2/5 to power
applications that typically employ 2.5-Gigabit processors, network
equipment vendors gain important performance and cost advantages. The
price of NP-2/5 is comparable to 2.5-Gigabit network processors yet
delivers twice the processing headroom and twice the number of Gigabit
Ethernet ports.
"The integration and processing flexibility provided by NP-2 has already
garnered us with close to 25 design wins, many with tier-1 networking
vendors," said Eli Fruchter, President and CEO of EZchip Technologies.
"NP-2 is used for building switch line cards, services cards and pizza
boxes that make the new carrier-class Ethernet networks and enable
triple-play data, voice and video services. Our continued product
innovation, significant market traction and strong financial position
complemented by our recent funding, provides customers with a compelling
value proposition of market-leading solutions from a market-proven and
financially sound vendor."
